The RNA world

The problem is that RNA cannot easily be both an encoder and a catalyst -- so which came first?

If encoder, then how did reproduction happen?

If catalyst, then what information is being reproduced?

Both encoding and storage at the same time requires a very complicated system.

Perhaps simpler storage molecules arose first, which RNA catalyzed, and then ultimately copied information from.
