Astronomy 183: A note about homework grading

I write long, hard, complicated homework problems. I grade these problems with fairly high standards. I will always give you solution sets so that you can see how I did the problem and what I was looking for. I don't really expect that anyone will ever turn in a homework that looks like my solution sets -- I do this so that you can see the entire explanation of the problem.

Here's my grading scheme for homeworks. Each problem gets scored 0-4 on the following scale:

4: perfect, or almost perfect
3: good job
2: not bad
1: you tried
0: you didn't try

All grades in this class are curved. You shouldn't worry about your individual numerical scores. Instead, you should worry about whether you are learning as much material as you should be learning. Every time I return a graded assignment to you I will tell you how you are doing.
