Shutting down all systems

    (if thunderstorms are approaching, or if you are leaving the site and 
        the weather is uncertain)


In the dome:

  - move telescope to stow position

  - close mirror covers

  - turn off the 4kccd power switch and the controller switch

  - it is not necessary to unplug filter galil; it goes off when telescope
     power is turned off

  - move dome to stow position; turn off autodome, and carefully align
    arrows over East door

==>>  NEVER turn off or exit TCS program unless telescope is at stow and
    the dome is in its stow position (black arrow aligned over East door)!!

  - turn off telescope power (lower right of telescope console)

  - turn off main power (big red button, middle button on right side of
    telescope console

  - turn off flat field lamps


In the control room:

  - the TCS computer:
    Exit TCS program with shutdown menu at lower right, hit <Enter> until 
    TCS quits; click and hold "Start" at lower left, choose "Shutdown" and
      confirm shutdown
    Turn off green power switch behind black door on righthand side of 
      telescope console
    Turn off NBS clock

  - Turn off the servo enable and auto-dome enable switches


  - the Sun: 

 **** the Sun is the only computer needing an additional shutdown command ***
      IF YOU SKIP THE USERHALT STEP, THE SUN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REBOOT !!                   

    Log out or kill all windows except one by right-clicking on the top gray 
       strip and selecting "Quit"

    If the last window is an IRAF window, type
        !/l/userhalt bigelow 
    Answer "yes"

    ( or if the last window is a unix window, type
        /l/userhalt bigelow   )

  - bigccd2: 
    Exit AZCamTool using "File", then "Exit" (at top left of toolbar);
    Quit AZCamServer with X at upper right; click and hold "Start" at 
    lower left, choose "Shutdown", and confirm shutdown.
    Press the button on the front of the computer box to turn the power off.

  - kuiper:
    Log out of all windows, or quit them with X in upper right corner;
    Click and hold the red hat in the lower left corner, and choose "Log Out",
    but when the action window pops up, choose "Shut Down"

  - bigaux:
    Close all windows (Telcom, Windows Explorer, etc); click and hold "Start"
    at lower left, then "Turn Computer Off", and confirm that you want to
    turn the computer off.  

  - Turn off power strips and unplug all the computers from the orange outlets
      on the wall:

     Turn off bigaux power strip and unplug it from the leftmost orange outlet

     Unplug the two black cables for kuiper and its monitor from the next
       pair of orange outlets

     Unplug the black-and-white twistlock connector for the printer power

     Turn off bigccd2 power strip and unplug it from the orange outlet

     Make sure the Sun system says it's ok to shutdown, then turn off the Sun 
       power strip and unplug its power cord from the orange outlet.



In the UPS room:


  - unplug all the telescope cables, connectors and ground, from upper and lower 
    rack, then switch off the power switch on the lower rack

  - follow directions on the north wall to power down and unplug the UPS
