Chin-Tang Liu , Temple University.
Abstract
The presentation will focus on an undertaking research initiative in Middle School Physical Science Curriculum, Quantitative Reasoning in Physical Science (QRIPS). The presentation will first provide an overview of quantitative reasoning in research, particularly in science and justify why this new line of research is extremely important to advancing the student learning in mathematics and science in the U.S. Also, the presentation will discuss how the proposed research efforts can coordinate the research findings from cognitive science and mathematics education. Then, the presenter will articulate the characteristics within the proposed middle school physical science curriculum. At the end, the presentation will engage in an informal discussion with the audience about the pros and cons of this proposed research.
